Vietnam: the pause I didn't know I needed

Saudamini on a cruise deck in Ha Long Bay, VIETNAM written across the sky above the limestone islands

My face has already made its way into quite a few Vietnam reels, thanks to my lovely travel partners, but this one's for me, and for the beautiful Vietnam I got to see, feel and carry home.

It began in Hanoi, where the city hums through narrow lanes and trains brush past close enough to feel the rush. Train Street truly lived up to every heartbeat it promised.

Walking along the railway tracks of Hanoi's Train Street, lined with cafés and lanterns

Then came Ha Long Bay, where we spent a day floating between limestone cliffs painted by time itself. Mornings began with tai chi, the slow, meditative art of balance and breath, on deck as the sun rose over still waters. Then, somewhere between laughter and quiet awe, I slid straight into the South China Sea, a moment that felt like letting go of everything heavy and choosing joy instead.

The cruise wasn't just scenic; it was kindness in motion. The crew went out of their way to craft meals for the vegetarian with endless "no this, no that", and it warmed my heart more than they'll ever know.

Hoi An glowed differently: soft, lantern-lit evenings that felt like walking through a watercolour painting.

Then came the dreamy ride up Ba Na Hills on the world's longest single-track cable car, a Guinness World Record that truly felt like floating above the clouds. The alpine coaster, a bucket-list tick, had the heart racing in the happiest way possible.

Soon after, we were drifting in a coconut boat, spinning in circles and laughter, surrounded by music, colours and the sweetest chaos.

And finally, Ho Chi Minh City: chaotic, alive, endlessly vibrant, the perfect full-circle ending to a trip that gave more than I could have ever asked for.

Somewhere between counting dongs, converting dollars and budgeting for the next coconut and coffee, I caught myself doing CA maths even on vacation, and smiled, realising how some habits travel with you.

And oh, the joy of seeing "Indian food" on menus, hearing locals say "Namaste", and realising how small and big the world can feel at once.

This trip was the pause I didn't know I needed: a gentle reminder that sometimes you don't go places just to see them; you go to feel yourself a little more deeply in them.
