10 hours without internet

Wrote this while hoping it would magically reconnect.
No cab bookings. No UPI. No Docs. No AI, Notion, Slack. Not even my smart lights were smart anymore.
Couldn't pay. Couldn't work. Couldn't scroll. Felt more lost than present. Like some invisible thread had snapped and suddenly, everything was... unreachable.
Have we become too dependent? Are we wired to the net more than to ourselves? We talk a lot about digital transformation. Cloud-first, API-first, AI-native. But what happens when the first layer, connectivity, disappears?
The pause was jarring. The convenience, gone. But then... the static cleared. Ideas started bubbling up. One of them was this post. Typed in Microsoft Word. Saved offline. (It still works – do try it again!)
What surprised me more was the mental reboot. The shift from passive consumption to active thinking. From apps to awareness.
We've built for speed, automation, real-time sync. Maybe now we also need to build for disconnection.
Design with offline modes. Think of local-first resilience. And more than anything, remember to back up our minds the way we back up data.
Disconnection isn't always silence. Sometimes, it's just a different kind of signal.
